Hawaiian hibiscus scientifically known as Hibiscus Rosa-sinensis not only grows in the Hawaiian Islands and almost all around the world but also in Thailand and Vietnam. It is a bushy or small tree plant, growing 2.5–5 m (8–16 ft) tall. The flowers of these Asian plants are edible and are used in salads in the Pacific Islands.

It also grows down to Indonesia and Malaysia and is originaly native to Ecuador and southwestern Colombia where it mostly blooms in summer. They require partial shade and a well-drained, but moisture-retentive soil. It can also be grown epiphytically, as, for example, with moss around its roots and wired to rough bark.
